PRESIDENT

Job Description

Responsible to:            Chapter President, Members of the Chapter’s Executive Board, and Members of the Mt. Baker Chapter of SHRM/NHRMA.

 

Function:                      The President serves as the Chapter’s chief administrative, managerial and executive officer to provide leadership to the Chapter and to assure the smooth operation of Chapter activities.   

 

Duties:

 

1.       Distributes copies of the Chapter bylaws and relevant job descriptions to members of the board to assure that each member knows what is expected of the positions each holds. 

 

2.       Chairs board meetings and meetings of the general membership.

 

3.       Develops an agenda for each board meeting and distributes copies to members prior to meetings.

 

4.       Acts as liaison between the Mt. Baker Chapter and NHRMA, SHRM, and the State Council.

 

5.       Guides the Chapter in development of goals and objectives.

 

6.       Makes committee assignments, appoints committee chairpersons and serves as ex-officio member of committees to assure that they function properly.

 

7.       Recommends appointments to fill any vacancies, which may occur on the board.

 

8.       Calls special meetings as needed.

 

9.       Prepares written reports for and attends NHRMA State Council Meetings.

 

10.   Maintains records related to the position of President, which includes information, received from SHRM/NHRMA, State Council reports and information, organizational charts, goals and objectives, Chapter Bylaws, job descriptions, and other pertinent materials.

 

11.   Authorizes expenditures of funds upon approval of the Board of Directors.

 

12.   In the event of a tie vote, the President casts the deciding vote on issues brought before the board or the general membership.

 

13.   Represents the Chapter in the Human Resources community and actively promotes the awareness and support of its activities.

 

14.   Immediately upon becoming the Past President and no later than the January board meeting, forwards all material and/or information related to the position of President to the incoming President.

 

15.   Attends meetings of the board and general membership on regular basis in order to keep informed of chapter activities.

 

16.   Impartially enforces Bylaws of the Chapter and upholds SHRM Code of Ethics.

 

 

 

Qualifications:              Must have served as Vice President and then as President-Elect.  Must be a professional or general member of the Mt. Baker Chapter of SHRM/NHRMA; and be familiar with the rules of parliamentary procedure.  Must possess a PHR or SPHR certification and possess up-to-date knowledge in the general areas of Human Resource Management.
